Before, during and after the Academy Awards News shows, newspaper articles, blogs and all other social media are filled with polls considering who wore it best? I just walked a red carpet that was more important than any Hollywood event.

I attended the first gay wedding held at the Four Seasons Restaurant in NYC. This was no typical “gay wedding.” A majority of the guests had served or were serving our country. As both Billy and Bryan have dedicated much of their time to helping injured soldiers.

Not only were these two amazing men marrying the person they love, but they were doing so in front of many teary eyed four stars. Same sex marriage and armed services are not often found in the same sentence. However, last night all the attendees embraced the concept.

We can all learn something from these men who give so much of themselves to a country that for a long time wouldn’t allow them to serve in the military, and only recently were they able to marry in their home state.

So what do you wear to a Gay wedding with army generals and a performance by Aretha Franklin? The majority of men wore blue suits flaunting a pin of both a New York State Flag and an American Flag. These pins were distributed with the idea that the rest of the country better get with the program. Many women wore sequins, including Aretha, or cocktail dresses. The most sensational outfits are those of the brave men and women serving our country.

And just hours after the wedding, social media is buzzing, the New York Times website reads, “If most New Yorkers have probably not heard of the couple who celebrated their wedding in spectacular style on Sunday evening, that’s because most New Yorkers are not celebrities, mega-wealthy or ultrapowerful.”
